Question # 2 : Why should I learn Music Theory?

Answer: Music Theory is the foundation of musical creativity.

More Information : Learning music theory (like the Taubman Approach) gives us the ability to develop one’s ability to problem solve as well as interpret information in a thoughtful, sophisticated manner. It is these two skills that develop both the logical (problem solving) and creative (interpretive) sides of the brain.

Studying music theory is as essential to the field of music as studying the English language before reading Shakespeare. One who has studied music theory at a deep level goes beyond the question of ‘what’ (i.e., what are the notes, what are the rhythms, etc.) and into the questions of ‘why’ (i.e., why is this music written like it is, etc.).
